Councilman Bob Weiner Sponsors Legislation That Will Regulate Use of PODSŪ and Dumpsters
On Tuesday, May 22, 2007, New Castle County Council unanimously approved legislation that would strengthen regulation of the use of dumpsters and PODS® on commercial and residential properties. Councilman Robert S. Weiner, (R) Council District #2, spearheaded and sponsored Ordinances 2007-047 and 2007-048 which create minimum standards for the use of dumpsters and portable temporary storage units or PODS® on commercial and residential properties. “I am proud of the fact that we were able to fashion regulations for PODS® and dumpsters which had the strong support of both the community and the storage container industry. These regulations both protect our quality of life by minimizing the safety hazards and also minimize visual clutter throughout New Castle County” said Councilman Bob Weiner, after unanimous Council approval. Jim Coker and Jay Williams, local owners of the PODS® franchise in New Castle County and the surrounding region worked with Councilman Weiner in developing the PODS® legislative initiative and strongly supported enactment of the legislation. PODS® brand containers provide a convenient and affordable moving and storage solution for the residents of New Castle County and the surrounding region. “We have enjoyed tremendous growth” said Jim Coker “and part of the reason why is that we try to be good neighbors. We’re glad to have clear guidelines both for our customers and for any new competitor in this segment that might not have a clear understanding of the appropriate way to operate.” They announced that they would advise their customers of the new regulations.
