New Castle County must properly manage its growth
Unlike many other jurisdictions, our financial affairs are in order and we are positioned to manage future growth.
Councilman Weiner is pleased to have played a significant role in establishing this stability:
"The real success story is not so much what has been accomplished as the way in which diverse interests have come together and cooperated for the common good.
By far the most important issue local communities face is how best to use existing resources and infrastructure."
Councilman Weiner's policy in dealing with those issues is to balance the interests of all concerned. He avoids any ties with developers and listens carefully to what residents say about impacts of proposed projects on their neighborhoods.
"I am by no means anti-growth. Economic development is important to maintaining quality of life," he said. "But growth must be directed to where available infrastructure exists, where the environment is not harmed and where proposed growth is consistent with community character."
The direction we must take in the 21st Century is clear: "Smart Growth."
