NCCo councilman proposes changes to ethics code

WILMINGTON NEWS JOURNAL

New Castle County Councilman Robert Weiner wants to allow the county Ethics Commission to publish the names of officials and employees who commit violations of the ethics code so serious that they face possible suspension or removal from their jobs. Under current law, the commission deletes the names of officials and employees in most recommendations that follow investigations into alleged ethics code violations. Weiner intends to introduce an ordinance Tuesday to make that and other updates suggested by the commission to the ethics code. Other proposed changes include allowing the commission to investigate former officials and employees up to three years after they leave their jobs and prohibiting future employment or appointment to county jobs for up to 10 years when the commission finds intentional, serious or repeated violations of the ethics code.

"I am grateful for Bob's decade-long support for the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, which follows Philadelphia Pike and Market Street into Wilmington. His presence and influence at the birth of our Delaware organization to develop this trail and to have it designated as a National Historic Trail was a key factor in keeping our hopes for the trail alive and growing."
