Greenville, Del. —
A scheduled Planning Board hearing on a proposed 36,500-square-foot office building at the former Columbia Gas site in Greenville has been canceled.

The Planning Board hearing, scheduled for Tuesday October 7, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Gilliam Building, will still be held, but the 20 Montchanin Road project will not be discussed.

The Stoltz Management Company announced it was being tabled Monday morning.

“We’re having ongoing conversations with the community and we expect those to continue, and while they do, it seemed to make the most sense to put off the hearing,” said Stoltz spokesman Tom Gailey.

Councilman Robert Weiner (R-Chatham), whose district includes the proposed project, said the Kennett Pike Association and the Hagley Foundation were both parties to deed restrictions that would prevent new construction on the site. He said he hoped the parties would have a productive dialogue about the proposal.

"Bob Weiner has done a great job in developing and constantly keeping a watchful eye over the Talley Day County Park and its dog park. I live on Wilson Road directly across the street from the park. I talk to many pet owners who just love the park. Many have told me that it's very relaxing there and they love the fact that their dogs can play together in a secure environment. When Bob walks around the park with his two dogs he stops to say hi to everyone. He certainly deserves credit for a job "well done" and I thank him for that along with so many pet owners. "
