Marsh & Silverside Roadway area safety improvements to commence in late Fall 2010

September 17, 2010
Contract Awarded for Silverside Road and Marsh Road Safety Improvements

Dover -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that Mumford & Miller Concrete, Inc., of Middletown, Delaware, was awarded the contract for Silverside Road and Marsh Road Safety Improvements. For this project, the contractor submitted a bid of $322,385.82, the lower of two bids received.

This project will:

1. Restripe Marsh Road between Silverside Road and Veale/Wilson Roads as one lane in each direction, with a two-way left turn lane in the center, and bicycle lanes on both sides.

2. Modify the entrances to the Shoppes of Graylyn by eliminating the entrance closest to the intersection of Silverside Road and Marsh Road, and by expanding the other entrance on Silverside Road.

3. Reduce the size of the entrance to Branmar Plaza II so that the entrance is further away from the intersection of Silverside Road and Marsh Road.

4. Add crosswalks, curb ramps, and sidewalks to improve pedestrian movements at the Silverside Road and Marsh Road intersection.

Work is anticipated to begin late fall 2010, and will be completed in approximately 47 calendar days

"I’d like to express my appreciation to Councilman Bob Weiner who exhibits strength, determination and fortitude and is always on the side of the people. I followed Bob’s actions when he was head of CCOBH's zoning committee and made strong efforts to try to stop the Brandywine Town Center construction. He has continued with energy and zeal in many pivotal positions in spite of enduring a lot of negative professional and personal attacks. I appreciate that he is never deterred."
