Councilman Bob Weiner schedules Talley Day Bark Park Maintenance Day for April 6

Bark Park maintenance day scheduled April 6

Here's a great way to get ready for spring.

Help get a bark park ready for the dogs -- and their people -- who will go there in warmer weather.

Volunteer sign-up is under way for the 2012 Talley Day Bark Park Maintenance Day on Good Friday, April 6, starting at 10 a.m.

The project is expected to last three to four hours, but volunteers may give whatever time they can spare, organizers say.

They ask helpers to bring rakes and shovels for mulching.

To sign up, call 395-8362, the office of New Castle County Councilman Bob Weiner, who championed the bark park's creation and organized past spruce-ups at the site within Talley Day Park in Brandywine Hundred.

Past volunteers have included Bank of America staff, New Castle County employees, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other student groups, community organizations and individuals including community volunteer Suzanne Mannes, all of whom Weiner said deserve thanks for making Delaware's first fenced-in dog zone -- with small- and large-dog areas -- a big success.
