Thank You from Talleyville Girls Softball

County Council Members,

I would just like to thank New Castle County Council for letting me speak at your meeting in behalf of Talleyville Girls Softball. I applaud everyone's commitment to the Old Mill and Channin projects and to the community even though some had questions and doubts about future procedures at these sites. Your commitment to these kids will greatly benefit New Castle County and the state of Delaware for years to come. Giving our children a place to participate in sports will keep them healthier and make them better rounded individuals. We must strive to preserve our open space in Northern Delaware for our communities and our future. That is exactly what we have done here with the Old Mill and Channin properties. We have secured land for over 2000 kids to play sports and stay active. This has been a long process with great effort from volunteers in both Talleyville Softball League and Concord Soccer Association. Our job is not done though. Now we are faced with new construction and scheduling the properties so that both our leagues and the community can co-exist and use the fields over the years to come. I promise you that we will do our best to serve the surrounding community and be a good neighbor to all. Again, I thank you all for joining us in this effort which will leave a lasting impression on our children and other generations to come.

I would like to especially thank Councilman Bob Weiner for all his hard work and team leading in all of this. Bob was an integral player in bringing the leagues and the community together. Mr. Weiner spearheaded efforts to acquire Old Mill Lane School site, the Channin School site, and Jester County Park and keep them as open space. We supported Bob in fighting to keep Channin from turning into an office space when there was plenty of existing office space in the area. Without the help of Mr. Weiner, Talleyville would not be signing the lease for our new softball complex today. So we thank you Councilman Weiner for all that you do.

Mark J. LaVere
President, Talleyville Girls Softball
