Weiner unopposed for council seat

Brandywine Community News - June 30, 2006
By Jesse Chadderdon
Staff Reporter

Second District Councilman Robert Weiner (R-Chatham) announced he is seeking a fourth term.

Weiner, whose Brandywine Hundred District spans from Route 100 on the West to a portion of Claymont on the East, has been a council member since 1996.

“During my three terms on New Castle County Council I have brought innovative
and creative solutions to the tough problems of our neighborhoods,” Weiner said in a statement. “I have fought runaway development, worked to revitalize the aging county infrastructure that we rely upon to meet our daily needs and helped to create new recreational facilities.”

Weiner, 56, is running unopposed, but the deadline for candidates to file is not until July 28.

“I believe that the job of a member of New Castle County Council is to make county government work for all of us,” he said. “For the last 10 years, I have been doing my best to ensure that New Castle County improves the quality of life of all of citizens, particularly the residents of the 2nd Council District.”

"I am grateful for Bob's decade-long support for the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, which follows Philadelphia Pike and Market Street into Wilmington. His presence and influence at the birth of our Delaware organization to develop this trail and to have it designated as a National Historic Trail was a key factor in keeping our hopes for the trail alive and growing."
